#JournalJourney

I have had SO many people asking me what is up with this #JournalJourney! I am really excited about it! I love writing, obviously, and I especially like to journal. I have a hard time starting things though, and I lack in self-accountability. But, starting these challenges/journey/whatever makes me take that time to do the things that I love, while helping others attain their goals and push themselves. If I can help someone, it gets me excited and lights a fire in me that makes me want to go above and beyond to make things work well for everyone. I get to enjoy the ride and the benefits, while feeding my need to help others.

I was elated with the outcome of the 30 day self-care challenge in my Mystic Beauty facebook group was amazing! I started that group as a place to talk about LimeLife.  While I live and die for skin care, I am at a crossroads in my life and I really want, no need, to branch out. Doing the #30dayselfcarechallenge showed me that I don’t have to conform, which I have always known (lol I never conform). SO! Instead of being the same ole, boring ass business group where I only try to sell you stuff, I am going to do my best to lift your spirits, to help women build bonds with one another, and maybe sell you a pretty lippy you can turn to on rough days, or a serum that will turn back the clock. I can’t be the only one who has that go to lipstick for crappy days. Most importantly I want to build you a place that you can turn to when you just need a place to say- “DAMMIT MY DAY SUCKED AND I NEED A PLACE TO VENT ABOUT (insert your shit show of choice)!!!” It was overwhelmingly rewarding to see how many people participated. I am still getting stopped by people saying how much they enjoyed reading everyone’s posts, how it reminded them to do something kind for themselves, even if they didn’t want to post.

So, what the hell is a #JournalJourney?

Honestly, I am really not 100% positive! I just thought it sounded catchy and would make a good hashtag 🤣 But I am figuring it out, I hope….

Sometimes the best plan, is no plan

What I do know is that this is going to be a lot different than the #30dayselfcarechallenge…..

We were all very open about what we had chosen to do for ourselves, it’s not that hard to say I decided to go to bed early or that I had a hot bath in the middle of the day. But sharing our most personal thoughts will probably prove to be a little more difficult.

Because this is a little more intense than the self-care challenge, I won’t be requiring you to share your entries, but I encourage it! I think that the act of vulnerability is humbling and motivating to better ourselves, and it honors our authentic-self.

As someone who tries to write, a lot, I understand that sometimes it is ridiculously hard to start, writers block is a real thing….a thing that plagues my life WAY too often. Don’t worry, I have come up with a list of prompts to help! I also made a short list of things for when you dont have a lot of time to spend doing it.

#JournalJourney

Remember, the act of taking the time for you, and making the effort to journal is just as important as your journaling content. If you are having a rough time getting started I suggest beginning with brain dumping. It helps to just put the pen to the paper and jabber on as long as you can. It doesn’t matter what you are writing, your grocery list, how mad your coworker made you, how obnoxious your kids are because they’re dying without entertainment 24/7 since school got out….whatever you need to get off your mind! Whatever flows out will clear your mind so the real stuff can surface.

There are so many different ways to journal; some people like to document big events in life to pass on through generations, some use it to sketch their emotions, and some use it as a planner. There is no right or wrong way to do this #JournalJourney! You can do it however you would like!

If you would like to participate in the group to get encouragement you can post about your topics, how they made you feel, or not! You can literally just say- “I decided to journal about a major life loss today (or whatever) and I choose not to share the details, but I just wanted to check in and say I showed up for the journey today.” You can post a pic of the entry and use a filter to blur it out, or if you would like to get more vulnerable you are welcome to post a pic of your entry or type up a summary. I am in no way requiring you to divulge your most inner secrets everyday.

We get so personal in a journal. But, I feel like its the perfect next step after spending 30 days giving ourselves a little extra love. We have laid the groundwork to be able to face some of the stuff we may not have felt strong enough to, had we not spent a little time nurturing our souls.

Reflect back on those acts of self-love if you hit a hard topic in your #JournalJourney to recenter yourself. All of this is to free yourself, to lighten your load. Be sure to keep your feet on the ground, but try to put your heart on your sleeve, ready to heal.

How To Prepare For Your #JournalJourney

For me, there is nothing better than a new notebook or journal! I got this one and some pretty pens to help motivate me to sit down with it everyday.

In this day and age, a lot of people like to tech-journal. I do this here and there, its nice to pull open my notes and spill my guts. I can do a release of what’s weighing me down in the middle of a crowded room and for all they know, I’m scrolling facebook.

I like to go into these types of things with a couple of goals in mind. For this journey I want to focus on making sure that I write every single day. I don’t expect you guys to do this every day, if you don’t want to. But I do want you to have a certain amount of times a week you want to journal. Otherwise you will just keep putting it off. So, rather you choose Monday, Wednesday & Friday to journal, every other day, once a week- whatever, make it a point to know what you expect of yourself and share it in the group or with a buddy so you can be held accountable!

We will be doing a little pre-journey goal setting and sharing in Mystic Beauty before the journey officially starts.

I am really excited to get this going! Go get yourself a journal, or dust yours off and join us!
